Senior Ministry

St. Stephen AME Church has a few programs for the Adult Seniors of the church and community.

One program is The Retirees’ Ministry, which was organized in 1981, for the purpose of fun and fellowship for retirees, regardless of age. Membership is also open to individuals who are not members of St. Stephen.

Our meetings are scheduled on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, September through June, at 11:00 am, in the St. Stephen Gym.

The membership voted to pay $50 per person, per year, to cover the cost of special events, and incur no additional cost. The yearly events are: a Kick-off Luncheon in September, a Christmas Dinner in December, and a Year-End Dinner in June.

In addition, refreshments are served at each meeting. On the 1st Thursday of each month, birthdays are celebrated with a special cake. On the 3rd Thursday of each month, speakers are invited to present various topics of interest to the group, such as health issues and other African-American topics of interest.

There is a chapter of “The Red Hatters” organization at St. Stephen. This group is for women who are 50 and over who enjoy fun and socializing with other women in this age group. The women wear purple outfits and red hats, and raise funds for charitable organizations and causes. This is a social organization that is recognized throughout the nation, and in some areas abroad. They are more than just their red and purple attire.
