Christian Education

Under the umbrella of Christian Education at St. Stephen, are organizations and activities such as, Sunday Church School, bi-weekly Adult Bible Study, Leader Training Seminars, etc.

Special Christian Ed “Events” will be posted to the Calendar and highlighted there.

Bible Study (with Rev. Barbara Woodson) –
Tuesdays at 6:30 PM

Pastor’s Bible Study (with Rev. Dr. Michael Cousin) – Wednesdays at 10:00 AM

Adult Church School – Several classes meet in the sanctuary, Sundays, from 8:45 AM to 9:50 AM.

Youth Church School
Elementary School Aged Children meet in Room 204, on the Second level of the Spivey Community Center.

Junior and Senior High School Aged Children meet in the Ladies’ Lounge, next to Room 204.

Church School for Teenagers has just gotten flexible!

Junior and Senior High school-aged young people, who would like to attend Church School, may do so at the following times:

1st, 4th, and 5th Sundays – Class begins at 8:45 AM
2nd and 3rd Sundays – Class begins at 10:00 AM

Church School Board Meetings (for Administrators and Teachers) – are every 4th Saturday, at 9:30 AM in Room 204.

Teacher Certification Classes were held at Bethel AME Church of Detroit, in early January. If you missed that session, Church School Teachers and Administrators still have a couple more chances to “get certified” this year. The next Teacher Certification Classes will be held at Allen Chapel AME Church, in Kalamazoo, MI, on April 17th, and then here, at St. Stephen AME Church of Detroit, on May 15th. For additional information on these classes, such as times, costs and payment procedure, contact our Church School Superintendent, Mr. James Stephens.

The Sorosis League Scholarship Ministry – An organization of women of the church, which has been in existence for over 50 years, that raises funds for the sole purpose of providing yearly monetary scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are college-bound members of St. Stephen AME Church.

This group meets monthly, March through November, on the 3rd Saturdays, at 12:00 noon.
